In the JDC: John Heysham Gibbon, Jr. Memorial Service

The latest addition to the Jefferson Digital Commons historical biographies is from a memorial service for Dr. John Heysham Gibbon, Jr.  Read the transcript or listen to an audio file.

The memorial was held in Mitchell Hall at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia on February 13, 1973. Dr. John Gibbon was best known for developing the heart-lung machine, performing the first open-heart operation in 1953, and initiating a new era in cardiovascular surgery.

Historical and special collection materials encompass a significant portion of assets in the Jefferson Digital Commons.
