Predatory Publishers: Another Year-End List Worth Noting

Librarians at Scott Memorial Library are constantly being asked where Jeffersonians should be publishing their research. Impact factors are one good metric for figuring out where to publish and Scott Library does offer an online subscription to Journal Citation Reports from 2008 to 2011 from JEFFLINE.

Another approach is to consider where you should not publish by consulting Beall’s List of Predatory Publishers for 2013. The number of nefarious publishers has exploded over the past year, rising from 23 in the previous list to more than 225 publishers in the current list. These corrupt publishers make money from author processing charges that are billed to authors upon acceptance of their manuscripts.  The list will continue to be updated at the Scholarly Open Access blog.
