Honor Black History Month: African American Graduates of JMC Digital Exhibit

Celebrate Black History Month by visiting the SML’s online exhibit “African American Graduates of Jefferson Medical College.” The exhibit tells the story of Jefferson’s first African American graduates, years of changes and challenges at the university, and the faces of Jefferson today.

Dr. Cora LeEthel Christian (class of 1971)

The exhibit’s story begins in the 18th century with James Derham, who is recognized as the first African American medical doctor.  

Learn about the accomplishments of Dr. Algernon Brashear Jackson, the first African American graduate of Jefferson, Dr. Cora LeEthel Christian, the first African American woman graduate, and other graduates who paved the way for many others.
