Interlibrary Loan - EZBorrow and ILLiad

A guide to requesting books and articles from other libraries

Overview

What is Interlibrary Loan?

If we do not have a journal article or book that you want, we may be able to get it for you from another library through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Always check the catalog first to confirm that we don't have the resource:
East Falls/Gutman Library catalog or Center City & Dixon/Scott Library catalog

Who can use ILL?

Current Thomas Jefferson University students, faculty, and staff can use ILL. Alumni are not eligible to use ILL services at the University. Please contact your local public library.

FAQs

Q: What can I borrow through Interlibrary Loan?
EZBorrow: Books
ILLiad: Articles, book chapters, and books that aren't available through EZBorrow.

Note: This service is designed to support the academic and clinical needs of students, faculty, staff, researchers, and clinicians of Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. Requests should be related to Jefferson coursework, research, or clinical need.

Q: What items may be difficult to acquire through ILL?
Textbooks, new releases, rare/archival items, and reference books may be difficult to find as a loan.

Q: How long will it take?
Articles usually arrive within 24-48 hours, but books may take up to a week or more (EZBorrow is faster).

Q: How will I get my requests?
When any item arrives, you will receive an email notification.
Articles are posted in ILLiad and only remain on the site for 30 days, so print or save them right away!
Books will be placed on hold for you, and can be checked out at your library's circulation desk.

Q: When are ILL books due?
The loan period for ILL items is set by the lending library; the due date will be shown on a label on the front of the book. The lending library has the right to recall their books at any time. If this happens, you will be emailed with a new due date.

Q: How can I renew ILL books?
EZBorrow: Loans cannot be renewed.
ILLiad: You can't automatically renew ILL books but you can submit request though your ILLiad account.

Copyright Compliance

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
